Warranty vs Leather Care

In a battle between leather care and warranty programs, actual leather CARE wins every time.

Why? Leather requires proper after care -- fact!

From a customer perspective, prevention is better than cure, and protected leather furniture will normally look better than repaired furniture.  Additionally, the number of holes in most warranties means in many cases you are not covered anyway and so you can really lose out.

From a furniture retailers perspective, customers who are advised on proper care and who benifit from it develop a long term relationship with the retailer and keep coming back. On a legal or business level, by having the correct approved product available in store you are giving your client the correct information to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty.

Retailers who have care product available at the time of sale and who impress upon customers the importance of leather care are better protected if something goes wrong.

If, for example, 10 months after a sofa is delivered there is a consumer problem/complaint which is deemed by an independent report to be due to lack of proper care (no care products used and damage or problems occurring as a result), who is to blame and therefore liable for repair?

Scenario 1: The client claims that no care instruction was mentioned and no care product was available at time of purchase. It could be seen by some tribunals that lack of instruction as regards proper care and no available approved/recognised care product is negligence on the part of the retailer.

Scenario 2: The client acknowledges that the salesperson did explain after-care and recommend purchase of an approved/recognised care product at time of purchase. If not purchased at the time it could then be seen that the client, although aware of proper maintenance procedures, did not maintain the leather in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

There are a number of quality leather care products available, including the line of LCK leather care products available from Corium Leather.  LCK is used and endorsed by more than 70 top international furniture manufacturers including "de Sede" and "Rolf Benz".   More information on the LCK products can be found in the LCK section of the Corium Leather website.
